WHY RE-INSULATE?

ISN'T MY HOME ALREADY INSULATED?

Did you know that homes built before 1980—roughly half of the houses in the United States—did not have to follow building codes for insulation minimums? There were none! As such, if your home predates 1980, it may lack sufficient insulation—or have none at all. Plus, insulation building codes have changed over the years, so the required insulation decades ago may not meet code today.

Hometown Heroes recognizes a hometown hero—an active-duty, reserve, veteran member of the armed forces or a first responder—with a whole-home insulation package from USA Insulation. Explore the signs your home may benefit from re-insulation and its benefits below!

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY HOME NEEDS RE-INSULATED?

Every home is different. However, many homes that could benefit from re-insulation exhibit the same telltale signs.

Is your home too hot and stuffy in the summer? Does your air conditioner work overtime?

Is it too cold in the winter? Does your furnace seem like it never gets a break?

Are your energy bills higher than expected?

Are some rooms in your home a different temperature than others, even on the same floor?

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF RE-INSULATION?

Insulation has many benefits, which makes it an important aspect of any home. Below are some reasons why proper home insulation is essential:

  1. Boosts comfort: Insulation helps keep a home warm in winter and cool in summer, making it more comfortable to live in.

  2. Protects the environment: Properly insulated homes can help reduce energy consumption, reducing carbon dioxide emissions into the environment

  3. Supports your health: Insulation can help reduce health problems such as asthma attacks, premature deaths, and sick days by maintaining a healthy indoor environment.

  4. Increases home value: An Energy Pulse Survey shows that 86% of people living in the United States prefer energy-efficient homes, which can make insulation and other energy-saving features a deal breaker or maker when buying or selling a house.

DID YOU KNOW RE-INSULATION CAN SAVE YOU MONEY?

Your HVAC system, responsible for conditioning the air in your home, can cost a lot of money. Poor insulation, however, allows the conditioned air to escape while letting outside air in, leading to inefficient heating and cooling. As a result, you end up wasting a considerable amount of money.

Insulation is one of the most impactful home improvements you can make. On average, whole-home insulation results in 30% energy savings each year.
